Summer is HERE!

โ˜€๏ธ Summer Safety Tips for Maple Hills Families

With school out and summer in full swing, let’s keep our Maple Hills community safe and thriving!

Here are a few safety reminders for the season:

๐Ÿšด Bike & Scooter Safety

  • Make sure kids wear properly fitted helmets every time they ride.

  • Teach kids to ride on the right side of the road and follow all traffic signals.

  • Bright clothing and reflective gear help make riders more visible.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Water Safety

  • Never leave children unattended around pools, lakes, or sprinklers.

  • Make sure home pools are securely fenced.

  • Teach kids to swim and review basic water rescue techniques.

๐Ÿงด Sun Protection

  • Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every 2 hours—and more often if swimming.

  • Wear hats, sunglasses, and UV-protective clothing.

  • Encourage breaks in the shade during peak sun hours (10 AM–4 PM).

๐Ÿš— Street & Playground Awareness

  • Remind kids to watch for cars and always look both ways before crossing the street.

  • Keep an eye on younger kids at parks and playgrounds—equipment can get hot or be slippery after rain.

๐Ÿ Bug Bites & Allergies

  • Use insect repellent when needed and check for ticks after playing in grassy or wooded areas.

  • If your child has severe allergies, make sure they have access to EpiPens and others know how to help.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire & Grill Safety

  • Keep grills away from decks, trees, and flammable items.

  • Teach kids to stay away from grills, fire pits, and fireworks.

  • Fireworks are illegal in King County—leave it to the pros at local shows!

๐Ÿง  Heat & Hydration

  • Remind kids to drink lots of water throughout the day—especially during physical activities.

  • Watch for signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, headache, or nausea.

  • Never leave children or pets in parked cars, even for a minute.

Wishing everyone a safe and sunny summer from your Maple Hills PTA!
